Aware of the difficulties PhD students still face when juggling family and a career, HBIGS is especially proud of its commitment to support members with children during their doctorate.
We do not only believe that it is important to expose students to role models, e.g. leading members of the scientific community and industry, but also develop support structures that allow PhD students to unite a family with a career in science.
HBIGS helps the PhD students find appropriate day care centers for their children.
Although women make up the majority of life sciences students up to the PhD student level, they remain under-represented in senior leading positions in both academia and industry in both the US and among many EU member states. However, with adequate support structures and specific counselling, a unique chance to improve the situation for women in science is given.
